An entry for a design challenge. The brief was to develop a phosphorescent based lighting system for use in refugee camp toilet blocks, as it was found that women and children avoided the toilet blocks at night for safety reasons due to absence of lighting. Needed to be low-cost, vandal resistant, self charging, and easy to install with minimum alterations to existing structures. This design used a light-guide to deliver sunlight to the emitter through a 1″ hole in the roof structure (which also served as the mounting method for the luminaire).
